Bobtail insurance is a liability coverage that pays for property damage or bodily injuries that is caused while your trailer is detached from your truck.

 

Example: After dropping off your load and trailer, a collision may occur while in transit to your next load. In such instances, your primary liability insurance won’t cover you - but bobtail insurance will. 

 

 

Do I Need It? 

 

In many cases, yes. 

 

If you drive a truck under someone else’s authority, you will most likely be required to carry bobtail coverage. In most cases, whomever has the authority will cover the primary liability and cargo.
